Benefits of Being in Private Practice

Over the next few blogs, I am going to be delving deeper into what you need to run your own Private Practice. This starts with the benefits of being in Private Practice. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be talking about how to ACTUALLY set up your practice. What paperwork you need. What you should have on your website and lots more.

If you’re currently thinking about starting a Private Practice check out the benefits of being in Private Practice below. If you already have a Private Practice I’d love to know what other benefits you think there are. Comment on the Facebook post and let me know.

Set Your Own Working Hours

When you have your own business YOU ARE IN CONTROL. You decide when you want to work and only take on the clients that fit into your schedule. Do you want to be around to take the kids to school? Do you need to work in the evenings as you have daytime responsibilities? Whatever your life looks like you can create a working schedule to fit. If you need help organising your time check out my benefits of time blocking blog.

Make Your Own Decisions

There are lots of decisions you need to make when you start a Private Practice.

  • When will your work?

  • Where will you work?

  • What types of clients will you work with?

  • How will your website look?

  • Will you create a social media page?

  • What will you charge?

The beauty of this though is that YOU get to make these decisions. You can do what’s best for you and what feels right.

Create Your Own Environment

You can decide to hire a room, see clients face-to-face in your home or work online. You can even do a mixture of it all. Maybe you hate the work commute and therefore working from home has great appeal. The choice is yours!

Work with The Clients You WANT to Work With

When you work for yourself you can market yourself to attract the right clients for you. You may have a niche or speciality you’d like to work with. Having a Private Practice will give you the freedom to do that.

Delegate What You Don’t Want to Do

If you are loving the benefits of being in Private Practice but are worried about the additional work that will come with it. Some of which you may not enjoy or be good at. You can always outsource this. You really don’t HAVE to do it all. No one can be you. There’s something special that you are good at that you enjoy but having a Private practice can come with lots of extra responsibility.

You can outsource:

  • Accounting

  • Administration

  • Invoicing

  • Business set up

  • Diary management

Things to Consider

Starting any type of business will have its downsides. It’s important to take time to consider why you want to start a Private Practice. Writing down your reasons can help you decide if this is the right path for you. You will not only be a therapist but a business owner and that can come with a lot of extra responsibility.

Working in Private Practice can be Lonely

Join Facebook groups, connect with other therapists on LinkedIn or reach out to other local therapists and arrange a meetup.

Do you enjoy business?

Understanding tax and basic accounting. Marketing and sales. Paperwork and administration. When you start a Private practice you will wear many hats. You are able to choose your working hours with regards to clients but the EXTRA work may spill over to your evening or weekends if you don’t plan your time well.
